Blackboard Technique card

Another little Valentine's share for you today highlighting the "Blackboard" technique.  Basically, this technique makes your card look like a blackboard, with all the residue chalk from all the cleaning - was it just me or was being asked to clean the blackboard at school seem like a reward??

I stamped the main Valentine's image and the swirls in versamark ink and heat embossed using white embossing powder. The good thing with this technique is that you don't have to worry about stray embossing powder sticking to your project, in fact it all adds to the effect.
I drew the outer lines using a white pencil that I got from my local art shop.

I did this by wiping a sponge with just a touch of "Whisper White" craft ink over the whole of the black layer using the same motion that I would use to clean a blackboard. You can see the 'smeared' chalk dust type effect better on this angle that gives it that 'Blackboard' feel.

I also made the card using "Real Red" cardstock, just to see what the difference would be.

I actually quite like it.

but it's not so easy to see the 'smeared. chalk effect but it's easier to see IRL.

Hope you like it, let me know if you would like me to demo' this technique to you and a group of friends at a Stampin' Up workshop or if you would like to purchase any of the products use, please get in touch.

Until next time.... xx

Retiring 2010-11 In Colour collection

All of the "2010-11 In Color" products will be retiring at the end of the month so I thought I would make a little card collection to showcase these lovely colours.

The colours that are retiring are "Peach Parfait", "Poppy Parade", (my personal favourite), "Pear Pizzazz", "Concord Crush" and "Blushing Bride"  This means that all card stock, ink pads, marker pens, glimmer brads, Designer paper stacks and Stitched-Poly ribbon in those colours will be retiring on 30th September, with some of these items already selling out, so if you do what to get hold of any products in these colours, please get in contact with me ASAP

I used the Note Cards to make these cards as I think it's a lovely size to make a little collection in as it is the perfect size to make a useful little gift for someone.

The stamp I used on these is from the "You are Loved" set which is included in the new 2012-13 catalogue which will be out on 1st October.

Monday CASE'd-book card

Monday already :o(

Well, thank god for stamping to cheer us up!

My share with you today is a card that I CASE'd, (this basically means Copied) from a foreign catalogue I had a peek at.

I changed a couple of things but it's basically the same.  CASE'ing is great when you've lost your crafty mojo and feeling a bit blank when you sit down at your crafting space - before you know it you've got something going, with a few changes to make it all your own and you're feeling inspired again - wonderful!

I used the colour spritzer tool to add a dusting of colour across the top of the card underneath the petals of the flower. I love the way it looks, it seems like pollen drifting on the air to me.  For the stem of the flower I just did a swoosh of the "Old Olive" marker pen down the cardstock.

I also made an envelope for it too, actually, I can stop making envelopes.  They can be made from DSP or cardstock and are wonderful as they can match perfectly your lovely new creation which is especially nice if you want to make a card for someone special.

Have a great day my dear blog friends.... xx

Valentine's day ideas - No.1

Over the next few days I'm going to share with you a few Valentine's day ideas, hope you like them and pick up something that may be useful to you in your Valentine's day crafting.

Today's share are a couple of 1-layer cards, made in the same way and using the same stamp set, "You are Loved" which is in the Spring Mini right now and is absolutely gorgeous.

The first card uses the large flourish from the set. On both cards I used a piece of printer paper to mask off the central section then used the "Parlor Prints" background stamp to stamp the image on the top and bottom edges.  I inked up the image using "Chocolate Chip" classic ink, used a blender pen to remove the ink from the word 'Valentine's' then coloured it in with the "Real Red" marker pen and then did the faux stitching with the "Chocolate Chip" marker pen.

This second card uses the large heart.  I followed the same process as the above card only this time I inked up the main image using the "Mahogany" ink spot from the distressing essentials kit.

Hmm ... I can't make up my mind which one I prefer, what do you think?
